Social Media Project

  • how the placement has further inspired them to study the subject
  • what the placement has taught them about the subject that they have applied to study (this could be specific knowledge or more general insight)
  • how the placement has helped to demonstrate in practice what they have learnt previously (or alternatively how the placement has made them question what has previously been learnt!)
  • how the placement has further inspired them to seek a long-term career within the subject
  • how their abilities or previous experience fit with the demands of a career related to the subject.

Social Media Project

PokeStars.com

Instagram
§     Incorporating different sports into the page (#Wimbledon #golf)
§     Using interesting card towers (could use #cardtower and possibly some more interesting structures using cards. This can go into all platforms for example ‘Send us in your card tower [best one wins] competition’)
§     Using beautiful poker players attracting a different crowed (could use #beautifulwomen)
§     Tattoos (Tattoos are a very popular search at the moment so could feature more of these by using #tattoos #bodyart #pokertattoo. This can go into all platforms for example ‘Send us your poker tattoo [best one wins] competition’)
§     Using national days like Fathers Day reaches out all over the country
§     Asking response questions (We've all been guilty of doing this with a big stack, right?)
New Instagram Ideas:
§     I find that quotes are very popular on instagram so you could upload picture quotes e.g

§     Personally I am big on memes as are many people browsing social media. You could always do ‘caption this’ or make your own with poker stars references. These along with quotes are definitely   something I would share with my friends.

Twitter
§     Cryptic Clue and other games
§     Links to tours and podcasts

New Twitter Ideas
§     For me as a non-poker player the page didn’t shout out to me and is very specific. A suggestion would be to incorporate some more outside references and share worthy content.
§     It’s all very exclusive at first glance to poker stars. Maybe incorporating games accessible to users who don’t know poker references
§     Posting memes with relevant hash tags

Facebook
§     Humor Apparent on first initial look (caption this style banter ‘When you’ve got aces in the big blind and everyone folds. Ugh’.)
§     Quotes using PokerStar players (could also use instagram example style quotes)
§     Games e.g “how many red cards are there” keeps people interacting and watching the page for result.
New Facebook Ideas:
§     Just like my instagram suggestions I think maybe incorporating different demographics of people outside of poker with competitions like
o   ‘Send us your poker tattoo [best one wins] competition’
o   ‘Send us your best poker face [best one wins] competition’
o   ‘Send us your card tower [best one wins] competition’
o   ‘Send us your poker art [best one wins] competition’
o   ‘Send us your best poker joker [best one wins] competition’
o   National day specific e.g Halloween  ‘‘Send us your poker costume [best one wins] competition’
§     Just like my instagram suggestions I think maybe incorporating more memes and humor are posts I am very likely to share
§     Although branding very specific to poker stars and its players I think a little more colour and content in posts suggests something a little more inviting to those out of poker stars to come into.
As a Facebook page it has great user interaction and is accessible to non poker players, nevertheless more shareable content with use of suggestions above may allow PokerStars posts to reach a wider audience. Including those who are non-poker players.

YouTube
§     Although there is already this kind of material a lot of it is further back into the video collection. I would suggest to make it more accessible to non-poker players, add in some newer ‘poker basics’ or softer PokerStar introductions?

New Ideas:

§     Documentary style interviews with players (possibly autobiographic)
§     Reviews on poker products?
§     Updated tutorials and tricks
§     User uploaded poker vlogs shared?

Twitch
I’m guessing with Twitch is very consistent to a niche market anyway and people using it are only looking for specific videos?

§     The PokerStars landing page header graphic is covered by title
§     Initial most recently uploaded on the previous broadcasts are all same graphics and you cannot see full title so seems as if you would have to go through all to see what is what?
§     I noticed some reference to charity work, for example in the Brazilian Neymar game. That seems as if it would reach out to a wider audience other than poker with relevant sharing?

Conclusion:

To conclude, I believe more user interactive competitions that aren’t necessarily aimed at just those with poker knowledge. You could use poker symbols as general knowledge questions etc. Instead of using general symbols to answer poker questions. I also believe trending categories like tattoos as such will bring in that kind of audience, as with card towers and other art based content. For example, users can showcase a piece of art that has themes of poker but then can get shared to another page that has a completely different market. So on and so forth with other types of trend. Finally, from a personal view and how I see my friends post. Memes, funny videos and quotes are very shared and the sources are from various niche markets as well. So it does work.
